The Running Mate Tumult & Tussle

Intelligence gathered by the Ghana Report indicates that Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana who is the governing party’s candidate for the 7th of December 2024 presidential elections, went in for Rev. Dr. Opoku Nyinah, the immediate past chairman of the church of Pentecost to be his running mate.
Dr Bawumia’s call was to give him a balance between Muslims which he is one, and Christians to maximize his votes in the crucial elections.
Despite the pulse of strategy, the Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party, NPP, was not enthused over that choice because the man of God is considered a non-politician, and is not inscribed with party stripes.
Another difficulty faced by the Vice President in the head hunt is the Alan Kyerematen factor. The latter’s break away from the NPP to form his party which is the Movement for Change to contest in the coming elections, is causing consternation within the NPP.
This is because they know Alan would split votes, and grant the opposition NDC a smooth passage to the presidency.
Reports say the matter was placed before former President J.A. Kufuor to talk Alan out of his current position. It is alleged that President Kufuor suggested Alan to be the running mate to Dr Bawumia. That call has not been embraced by President Akufo Addo, our sources stated.
Among those in the poll position now is the Chief of Staff, Madam Akosua Frema Osei Opare who sits well with the power brokers.
