The Selena Gomez and Sam Parker Feud, Explained

Of all the people you’d expect to have beef with Selena Gomez, Sam Parker—a random Republican politician from Utah—probably wouldn’t be on the top of the list, but here we are. What started with one tearful video from the 32-year-old has now growing into a full-blown feud with MAGA nation. If you would like to know why, buckle in.

On January 27, Gomez posted, then quickly deleted, a video of herself crying in response to President Trump’s recent immigration “crackdown,” which resulted in nearly 1,000 arrests January 26. Gomez said, in her tearful vid, “I just wanna say that I’m so sorry. All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.”

In response, Sam Parker, a Republican who ran for Utah Senate in 2018 and lost, wrote on X, “Selena Gomez picked illegals over America b/c she’s the 3rd gen descendent of Mexican illegals who received citizenship in the ’87 Amnesty. She has an entitlement attitude toward America, like her illegal g’parents. Maybe Selena should be deported, too?” For what it’s worth, Parker’s bio on X has a list of constitutional amendments he would like to see repealed, including the 19th, which granted women the right to vote.

Parker was not the only Republican who responded to Selena Gomez. Tom Homan, Trump’s border czar, told Fox News, “If they don’t like it, then go to Congress and change the law. We’re going to do this operation without apology.”

Now Gomez has responded to Parker’s tweet. In another since-deleted Instagram story, per People, Gomez wrote over a black background, “Oh, Mr. Parker, Mr. Parker. Thanks for the laugh and the threat.”

To be clear, Selena Gomez is a United States citizen of Mexican descent and is not undocumented.

Luckily, Gomez also has supporters on the internet, including Flavor Flav, who tweeted, “Team Selena Gomez. Again. That woman is always so brave to share her truth,,, and so many are quick to bully her.” If Flavor Flav is declaring a winner in Selena Gomez and Sam Parker feud, I think we can consider this case closed.
