These 2000s-Era Nike Soccer Cleats Are About to Dominate Summer 2025 Sneaker Trends
Nike is bringing back the “Total 90” from the 2000s this summer.
“Never before have sports and fashion been so closely linked,” Vogue Germany noted at the end of last year. “Hoodies, sweatpants, and sneakers have long since become lifestyle products worn away from the sports field or gym,” Vogue editor Katharina Fuchs wrote at the time. “And specific terminology for these sports-inspired styles has long since been established.ā
Fuchs continued, “In 2024, tenniscore seemed ubiquitous (thanks in part to Zendaya’s attention-grabbing press tour for the film Challengers), and in the summer it was complemented by blokecoreāan aesthetic inspired by soccer fandom and based primarily on fashionable interpretations of jerseys.”
This trend is only gaining further momentum in 2025. Just last weekend, tennis players Jasmine Paolini and Coco Gauff competed in the final of the WTA tournament in Romeāthe Italian in a look from the hyped collection by Asics and APC, the American in an outfit by New Balance and Miu Miu.
Nike’s latest sneaker trend also fits perfectly with the ongoing hype around sports fashion. Currently, the athletic brand is reissue of a soccer cleat that was launched in 2000 and was initially worn on the pitch by football stars such as Ronaldinho GaĆŗcho: The Nike Total 90.

āBorn on the pitch in 2000, the Total 90 left a lasting legacy on the beautiful game. Now it’s back with authentic soccer style, reloaded for the street,ā the Nike website reads. āThis modern edition swaps cleats for a flat gum rubber sole while keeping the iconic quilted upper and asymmetrical lacing of the original.ā
The shoes exude a nostalgic retro vibe, yet also look modern and almost futuristic. They’re available in simple versions in cream and black, as well as options with bright orange and gold details. (Unfortunately the silver and red versions are currently sold out on Nike’s website.)
Thanks to their slim silhouette, the shoe is versatile and looks great with relaxed jeans or casual summer trousers. Social media star “Gramps” also demonstrated how the new sneaker trend from Nike can be styled: in a blokecore look with leopard pants and a jersey.
And even with romantic maxi dresses, these sneakers can be perfectly combined for a football look. The ideal footwear choice to build anticipation for the upcoming Women’s Euro in Switzerland.
