This Audi S3-Powered Volkswagen Fox Is A Frightening Creation

It’s easy to ridicule the Lego-like nature of VW Group products, with seemingly everything and anything fitted to its cars transferable across models and brands. The flip side of this cost-effective approach is that creative tuners have been able to come up with some crazy ideas over the years, but this modified Volkswagen Fox may be the most unhinged we’ve ever seen.

At first glance, there’s nothing to suggest anything special about this supermini. Its plastic bumpers are faded, there’s a wheel trim missing and the paintwork has seen better days. However, a look under the bonnet reveals a whole other animal.

As Twin Engine Corsa tells us (check out the rest of his channel, you’ll see the bonkers creation that name is borrowed from), there’s a K03 engine, a 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, taken from an 8L Audi S3 shoehorned into here. More surprisingly, it hasn’t required all that much alteration to get in place, with even the original engine mounts lining up.

Little has been done to extract more power from the engine, mind you, not that it needed it with 222bhp on tap when the S3 was new. Remember, this is going to the front axle of a Volkswagen Fox. Another VW Group piece, a six-speed gearbox from a Seat Leon, has been borrowed to help the car cope with its newfound riches of power, though. We’ll hand it over to Twin Engine Corsa to give you a sense of what it’s like to be in the thing while it’s on the move.

He’s also taken a deep dive into a bonkers third-gen Volkswagen Polo, looking even worse for wear than the Fox, with a 2.0-litre TFSI shoehorned underneath the bonnet and hooked up to a seven-speed DSG. No word on power but presumably, there’s lots of it.

It only takes a look inside to see how spartan this monster is. Basically, all of the upholstery is removed, with wires exposed everywhere and even a newer Polo infotainment system and digital instrument cluster hacked into the dashboard. We’re all for this level of ropiness.
