This Host Refused To Give Their Pregnant Guest Some Birthday Cake, And I’m Gonna Need You To Hear Them Out, Because They Have A Pretty Good Point

This Host Refused To Give Their Pregnant Guest Some Birthday Cake, And I Can’t Believe I’m Saying This, But I 100% Agree”She tells her kids, ‘let’s go,’ and they leave without cake. Now I’m feeling like I may be the *sshole. No-one has said anything but I know there’s tension.”

In a Reddit post shared to r/AITAH (am I the *sshole here), site user u/Unhappy-Marzipan7911 asked, “AITA for not letting a pregnant woman have any of my birthday cake?”

The poster (OP) explained that she’d celebrated her birthday the day before she wrote the post. Her husband had invited two friends; his BFF Matt, and Matt’s pregnant girlfriend, Jane. The whole party was OP, Matt, Jane, OP’s husband, and both couples’ kids (three children each). She had a birthday barbecue, spending about $90 on food — Matt brought some burgers.

“While the guys cooked, I went swimming with all the kids in our pond. Jane sat near the guys on her phone,” the poster shared. So when the dads called OP because dinner was ready, the Redditor decided to keep swimming for a bit with their middle child because neither were hungry yet. “We spent a good 40+ extra minutes in the pond on our tubes,” the poster said. “I wasn’t paying any attention to anything that was going on near the grill.”

“Around 6:15ish is when my husband said that he was going to make a store run for beer, so I tell my son that we should probably go eat now,” OP wrote. Her husband, Matt, and Jane had all gone away when they arrived. “Well, we get up to the grill and all the food is gone. Literally everything. I call my husband and ask him where all the food is and he said that it should be on the grill. I tell him that everything is gone,” the Redditor shared.

OP’s husband paused before saying, “Jane asked if she could take some for leftovers but I didn’t think she would take all of it”. He added that there were about 10 hotdogs, eight burgers, and a whole fresh container of mac ‘n’ cheese on the table when he left.

OP asked their husband to ring Matt and ask what happened. After the call, he rang his partner back to say that Matt only thinks Jane took “a few” pieces, and that there was loads left on the table when they drove off. (Side note — how come they just drove off without saying bye to the host?) Anyway, “my oldest son (13) straight up tells me he saw Jane walk off our property carrying the entire dish (one of those extra large tin foil BBQ dishes),” OP wrote.

“I’m pissed at this point. Me and my son hadn’t eaten anything,” OP wrote. However, her husband didn’t want to kick up a fuss because he works with Matt, which she grudgingly accepted. But THEN, “much to my surprise, Jane and her kids come back over 45 minutes later and ask if they can have some of my cake,” the poster said(!!!!!!!!!).

“I tell Jane that her kids can but she can’t,” the Redditor said. And when Jane asked why, the poster said, “I’m pretty sure you’ve eaten plenty considering you took off with my entire BBQ dinner before me and my son could eat anything”. Then, OP says, “She tried arguing that my husband told her she could have it, that ‘half of it was hers’ (cause they brought 2lbs of hamburger meat) and that she ‘didn’t realise’ me and my kid hadn’t eaten (she was beside the grill the entire time).”

“I just shrugged my shoulders and walked away,” OP ended their post. “She tells her kids, ‘let’s go,’ and they leave without cake. Now I’m feeling like I may be the *sshole. No one has said anything but I know there’s tension.”

Needless to say, people had *thoughts* in the comments. “Who leaves a bbq without saying good bye to the hostess? It was only the two families. That’s rude in its own right,” u/ashburnmom wrote.

“NTA [not the *sshole], if the party is still going on, there aren’t leftovers yet, it’s just food. Why would she leave and then come back? That’s just weird,” u/cassowary32 added.

And u/NotShockedFruitWeird commented, “NTA. Who leaves a party with all the leftovers and then has the gall to return for more?!”
