Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show livestream was packed full of nice little surprises, from Square Enix shadow drops to chunky Game Pass updates, but one previously unknown title has been getting lots of attention since the show wrapped up – and we can see why.

Humble Games introduced a new JRPG called Threads of Time during yesterday’s broadcast, and boy oh boy does it look gorgeous. We’re getting big Sea of Stars vibes from this one, with the community also pointing out huge similarities to genre classic Chrono Trigger.

We won’t hold back on you anymore, here are some images from the game’s store page:

The team describes Threads of Time as an “era-spanning, turn-based RPG inspired by the timeless classics”, and the studio has certainly nailed this first impression. It sounds like we’ll all be doing lots of 2.5D adventuring when this one hits Xbox.

“Embark on a journey through time, gather a party of charismatic heroes from across ages, and uncover a plot that threatens to unravel the past, present and future.

Step into vibrant worlds powered by Unreal Engine 5, meet lovingly hand-crafted 2D characters and experience the timeless charm of pixel art as you explore through the ages. Threads of Time captures the essence of your favorite retro RPGs, wrapped in a new and immersive adventure.”

We don’t have a release date for Threads of Time just yet, but the store pages are live on both Xbox and Steam for wishlisting and all that jazz. We shall be patient for now, but we’re very excited to see if the dev team can stick the landing with this classics-inspired JRPG.

Right, who else is now hyped for Threads of Time? Tell us what you think of it so far down in the comments!
