Thursday horse racing tips from Tom Lunn at Chelmsford and Southwell

Chelmsford tips
1.20: New York Bay 4/5 (2pts – NB)
Won twice on the all-weather from just four starts and has improved massively – winning by over five lengths at Wolverhampton an then beat Taxiing by a short head next time out.

That’s clearly no fluke and has only been upped 3lb as a result of that win.

But that form has been boosted once more as Taxiing went on to win at Wolverhampton on Tuesday in good fashion.

It also seems that trainer Gay Kelleway has found quite a good race to see this four-year-old make it a hattrick as his rivals have a bit to prove in order to beat this odds-on favourite.

1.55: Come On Girl 9/4 (1pt)
All In The Hips and Come On Girl were close behind Beauzon in their latest runs on different days.

All In The Hips was only seen two days ago when beaten by a length, while Come On Girl was just over a length away also at Wolverhampton behind the same horse, six days ago.

There’s not much promise from the rest of the field in defying these two if they’re up to it again either.

It just seems Come On Girl is still well-weighted in comparison to her better efforts last season.

And has shown real consistency since returning from a fairly long summer break placing a close second twice before her third place effort last time out.

Southwell tips
6.30: Tenerife Sunshine 5/1 (1pt)
This should be a great Class 3 and realistically the best race of the day with the level of horses on show.

Nice fourth at Kempton over this distance last time out under Danny Muscutt and he’s back on board this lightly raced colt this time.

The Lope De Vega four-year-old won off 1lb higher at Kempton back in August and went on to race in a couple of tough turf races at Newmarket and York.

Trained by Charlie Johnston there’s always been a certain degree of hope for this horse.

He was into Group 3 at Newmarket in 2022 on his third run and after nearly a year break returned in late summer off a workable mark, which he’s back down to again and could be able to utilise some of this weight advantage.
