Tiger Stadium sends crystal clear message to LSU head football coach Brian Kelly during Week 13 matchup against Vanderbilt
Tiger fans in Death Valley let LSU head football coach Brian Kelly know how they felt during a Week 13 matchup with Vanderbilt; chanting āFire Kellyā as the Tigers struggled to get their offense going in the first half against the Commodores.
Going for it, and not converting, on fourth and goal at Vanderbiltās 3-yard line with 33 seconds left in the first quarter was the primary culprit.
“This crowd is restless,” The Advocate LSU football beat reporter Wilson Alexander posted on X after LSU’s first drive, formerly known as Twitter. “Boos after the three-and-out, then the students chanted ‘Fire Kelly’ after the touchdown until LSU’s band drowned them out.”
Kelly has had a rough week. 5-star Belleville (MI) QB Bryce Underwood flipped to Michigan and threw into doubt his 2025 recruiting class. Losing a star QB is never the precursor to anything good on the trail.
Kellyās scrutiny didnāt just come in Baton Rouge on game day. LSUās head coach was flamed on X for his clumsy fourth-down play-calling that cost the Tigers points in the first half against the Commodores.
āThe obsession with going for it on 4th down has gotten out of hand in football. More coaches lose their teamās games with going for it instead of kicking. Brian Kelly just gave up 3 points for 0,ā one fan tweeted.
āDeath, Texas, Brian Kelly coming up empty on 4th down,ā another wrote.
āBrian Kelly loves leaving points on the field,ā one fed-up Tiger fan said.
Where LSU goes with their head coaching position is unclear. Kelly has had a mostly successful tenure but 2024 has been a major step back in Baton Rouge.
