At UFC 306 at The Sphere this past weekend, the promotion finally confirmed the date and location for the undisputed heavyweight title fight between Jon âBonesâ Jones and Stipe Miocic.
Unsurprisingly, it didnât take long for interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall to respond to the long-awaited fight announcement, with the British juggernaut quick to state that the clashing of the two UFC legends will merely be a placeholder for the âreal championâ.

That PPV is scheduled to take place at Madison Square Garden in New York on Saturday, November 16 and in the co-main event, Michael Chandler returns to action to rematch Charles Oliveira.
âJon Jones is gonna fight in Madison Square Garden in November,â Dana White told Complex Sports, adding: âAnd then if he wins, or Stipe wins, we see what happens next.â
Whatâs ânextâ will surely be one of two options for Jones; retirement or Tom Aspinall.

Aspinall was not only delighted that the undisputed title fight had an official date, but also that it means he can finally set his sights on being in the best shape possible; just in case the UFC need a short-notice backup.
âWhat else happened there was big Jon Jones [and] big Stipe Miocic matched up with one another, finally itâs official for November 16th, MSG, New York City â the heavyweight title is on the line at long last.

âFinally, we are confirmed for it, and I will of course be there to watch these two gentlemen go at it, I of course have told the UFC that if anybody gets injured or thereâs any other reason why nobody can make it to that fight, Iâm ready to go.â
Aspinall claimed âIf I need to, Iâll fight both of them in the same night no problemâ as he sent a clear message to both the UFC and the two men headlining UFC 309: âGive me my undisputed title.â
âIn my opinion, it should not be two champions in one division, I think that is silly; this is not what the UFC is about, this is not what MMA is about â thereâs one guy in each weight division and I believe itâs me.

âSo Iâll be fighting the winner, Iâll be there if they need me, Iâll be fit and ready, Iâm training right now and ready to go â Iâll be ready to go on November 16 if I need to⊠MSG is the place where I won the title, Iâll go back there and Iâll unify the title there as well if I need to.â
