Tom Aspinall shares his reaction to Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic finally being announced for November 16 in New York

At UFC 306 at The Sphere this past weekend, the promotion finally confirmed the date and location for the undisputed heavyweight title fight between Jon ‘Bones’ Jones and Stipe Miocic.

Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take long for interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall to respond to the long-awaited fight announcement, with the British juggernaut quick to state that the clashing of the two UFC legends will merely be a placeholder for the ‘real champion’.

That PPV is scheduled to take place at Madison Square Garden in New York on Saturday, November 16 and in the co-main event, Michael Chandler returns to action to rematch Charles Oliveira.

“Jon Jones is gonna fight in Madison Square Garden in November,” Dana White told Complex Sports, adding: “And then if he wins, or Stipe wins, we see what happens next.”

What’s ‘next’ will surely be one of two options for Jones; retirement or Tom Aspinall.

Tom Aspinall shares reaction to Jon Jones’ title fight announcementOnly a few hours after the Jones vs Miocic fight had been announced, interim king Tom Aspinall would share his reaction to his official YouTube channel – introducing himself on the breakdown as “the real heavyweight champion of the world.”

“Jon Jones was there, he had his cowboy hat on, he was making videos putting them on Instagram – him and Ryan Garcia rapping about Jesus Christ, it’s what we love to see, Jon Jones is in the mood for a party, and we love to see it.”

Aspinall was not only delighted that the undisputed title fight had an official date, but also that it means he can finally set his sights on being in the best shape possible; just in case the UFC need a short-notice backup.

“What else happened there was big Jon Jones [and] big Stipe Miocic matched up with one another, finally it’s official for November 16th, MSG, New York City – the heavyweight title is on the line at long last.

“Finally, we are confirmed for it, and I will of course be there to watch these two gentlemen go at it, I of course have told the UFC that if anybody gets injured or there’s any other reason why nobody can make it to that fight, I’m ready to go.”

Aspinall claimed “If I need to, I’ll fight both of them in the same night no problem” as he sent a clear message to both the UFC and the two men headlining UFC 309: “Give me my undisputed title.”

“In my opinion, it should not be two champions in one division, I think that is silly; this is not what the UFC is about, this is not what MMA is about – there’s one guy in each weight division and I believe it’s me.

“So I’ll be fighting the winner, I’ll be there if they need me, I’ll be fit and ready, I’m training right now and ready to go – I’ll be ready to go on November 16 if I need to
MSG is the place where I won the title, I’ll go back there and I’ll unify the title there as well if I need to.”
