Tom Brady experienced his fair share of conference championship games throughout his storied career, and he was impressed with Brock Purdy’s poise in the second half of the San Francisco 49ers’ 34-31 win over the Detroit Lions in the NFC Championship Game.
“Done a great job … Yesterday, I thought he played so well in the second half,” Brady said during his latest appearance on his Let’s Go! podcast (12:20 mark).
After his team trailed by 17 points at halftime, Purdy helped lead the 49ers on several consecutive scoring drives while San Francisco’s defense allowed just seven points over the final two quarters.
The 24-year-old was partially responsible for the large deficit, as his performance in the opening half left much to be desired. Purdy threw for just 93 yards to go along with an interception in the first two quarters.
However, he passed for 174 yards and a touchdown in the second half. Purdy also made an impact on the ground, racking up 48 yards on five rush attempts in the third and fourth quarters.

“He made some big plays with his feet, moving the ball down the field, and [I] thought that he led the team to a great victory,” said Brady. “So, I think he’s done terrific.”
Brady, a three-time MVP, owns the most passing yards and passing touchdowns in NFL playoff history, meaning that he’s played in his fair share of AFC and NFC title games. He appeared in 14 during his career, with 13 coming in the AFC as a member of the New England Patriots and one in the NFC with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
It’s safe to say that Brady knows what it takes to get to the Super Bowl.
The 49ers will be expecting Purdy to look like his second-half self during Super Bowl 58 on Feb. 11, as San Francisco faces a tough Kansas City Chiefs defense. The Chiefs’ 57 regular-season sacks was the second-highest mark in the NFL. During Kansas City’s win over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, Lamar Jackson was brought down four times.
