Australian singer-songwriter Tones And I hit the rarified three billion mark on Spotify with the track ‘Dance Monkey,’ one of only eight songs to reach such a milestone.Having a song on Spotify’s illustrious Billions Club is already something to brag about, but even fewer tracks have passed the three billion mark on the digital music streaming platform. Australian singer-songwriter Tones And I has become one of only eight artists to achieve such a feat, with her 2019 hit “Dance Monkey,” and the only female artist to do so.

Since its release, “Dance Monkey” shimmied its way to No. 1 on the ARIA Chart and stayed there for 24 non-consecutive weeks, while leading the Official UK Singles Chart for 11 weeks — both all-time records, the latter for a female artist.

In the US, the song hit No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, landing Tones the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 Songwriters Chart. Prior to that, a single written solely by a female artist had not reached the Top 5 on the Hot 100 since Whitney Houston’s version of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You” at No. 3 in 2012 upon news of Houston’s death.

“Dance Monkey” was written by Tones (whose real name is Toni Watson) and produced by Tones with Brisbane producer Konstantin Kersting. The song has topped the charts in 30+ regions, with a music video on YouTube that has surpassed two billion views.
