A championship clash between Storm and Rosa has been a long time coming since it was Storm who benefited from Rosa landing on the shelf with an injury in 2022.

Rosa had been scheduled to defend the AEW women’s world title against Storm at All Out 2022, but when she was deemed unable to compete, a four-way match to determine the interim AEW women’s world champion was held, and Storm beat Britt Baker, Jamie Hayter and Hikaru Shida.

Two months later, Rosa vacated the lineal AEW Women’s World Championship since she had to miss a significant amount of time, and Storm’s interim reign was retroactively made an official AEW women’s world title reign.

The title bounced around between several wrestlers over the next several months with Storm dropping it and winning it back on a couple of occasions.

Most recently, she won it from Shida at Full Gear in November 2023, which occurred shortly after she developed her “Timeless Toni” heel character.

After missing well over a year due to injury, Rosa made her in-ring return in December 2023, putting her on a clear collision course with Storm.

Recently, Rosa found herself on a roll, teaming with Deonna Purrazzo to beat Storm and Mariah May in a tag team match on the March 20 episode of Dynamite. That set the stage for Storm to establish herself as No. 1 contender.

On the April 3 edition of Dynamite, Rosa faced Storm’s protege in the form of May, and Rosa scored the victory to earn a title match against Storm at Dynasty.

Rosa finally got her opportunity to win back the title she never lost at Dynasty, but she was unable to end Storm’s lengthy reign.
