Ella Toone joined Manchester United aged just eight years old.

Since then, the record-breaking 25-year-old has established herself as one of the pioneers of women’s football, with her impact at this club felt more than most.

Spells with Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City helped Ella learn her trade but it is here, with her childhood club, that our no.7 has carved the way for many young girls in the sport.

Alongside Millie Turner and Leah Galton, Tooney is one of the only remaining members from our 2018/19 title-winning inaugural squad.

With the weight of expectation set to swing around like no other after a busy summer, Ella knows what it will take to be successful in 2024/25.

“I think I still look at myself as one of the young players,” began Ella as she spoke to club media to preview the new season.

“I do still consider myself young given I am only 25! I think what I have done throughout my career, I have a lot of experiences that I can share.

“I have been to a Euros and won it, I’ve also been to a World Cup and got to a final.

“Yeah, I have been at Manchester United now for a long time, so I want to use those experiences the best I can for the younger players coming through and for the players that we sign as well.”

Six new faces have arrived over the summer, with Celin Bizet the freshest addition to Marc Skinner’s squad.

Simi Awujo, Dominique Janssen, Melvine Malard, Anna Sandberg and Elisabeth Terland are also in the building and Tooney admits additions of that calibre will always be welcome at United.

“It is nice we have got those new signings in and they have fitted in really well, it is like they have been here forever,” added the England international.

“I think that’s credit to the team because, as soon as someone signs, we make them feel welcome, we make them feel like part of the family.

“We have that real togetherness about us. For me, I have got to really step up this year and try to be a leader that I know I have in me, by my performances on the pitch but also the person I am off of it.

“It is a real exciting season and I am ready to take it with both hands.”
