Tour de France 2025: Prize money and awards for winners as 112th edition of iconic race approaches

The 112th edition of the Tour de France will start this weekend as the world’s biggest cycling event gets going.

Winning this event is often the highlight of a cyclist’s career, along with Olympic honours.

Tour de France 2025: Prize moneyThere is a total of $3.1 million (£2.2m) up for grabs, which is split between the various winners.

The winner of the whole event can expect to pocket $590,000 (£432,000), making it the most lucrative event in cycling by miles.

And unlike in tennis, the women don’t earn the same amount.

The winner of the women’s version of the Tour de France only receives ten per cent of what the men earn.

In the men’s, second and third place take home $235,000 (172,000) and $117,000 (£85.7k), respectively.

There is prize money available for every rider who passes the finishing line in Paris, with everyone from 20th to 160th earning at least $1,000 (£732).

Money is also up for grabs for each stage, with the winner pocketing $12,950 (£9490) for crossing the line first.

It is scheduled to end on Sunday, July 27, when the riders race down the Champs-Élysées.

Stage one is set to get going at 11:40am local time, which is 10:40am in the UK.

The whole thing will be shown on TNT Sports and discovery+, with each stage being broadcast in full.

ITV4 and ITVX are also showing every stage of the Tour de France on free-to-air TV in the UK.

This is set to be the last year before the rights switch exclusively to TNT, so make the most of it.
