Travis Kelce’s Ex Kayla Nicole Says They Can’t ‘Communicate’ Because of Taylor Swift Fans

To quote Ariana Grande, Kayla Nicole and Travis Kelce can’t be friends—at least in public.

During a recent appearance on Unapologetically Angel, a new podcast hosted by WNBA star rookie Angel Reese, the sports broadcaster and influencer said there’s “no room” for the exes to “communicate” due to his highly publicized and heavily scrutinized relationship with Taylor Swift.

If you’re new here, Nicole and Kelce dated on-and-off for five years before their split in May 2022. In July 2023, Kelce gave a shoutout to Swift on his New Heights podcast and the rest is Hallmark-movie-worthy history. But just because Kelce has moved on from his relationship with Nicole, that doesn’t mean they’ve stopped running in some of the same circles.

“We’ve seen each other in public spaces,” Nicole told Reese, joking that she’ll “hit him with a head nod” during those moments. “I think that we’re both aware of the nature of his new situation, that there’s just no room really for us to communicate or acknowledge each other publicly without it being spun into something crazy. So we just keep it moving.”

Before you accuse Kayla Nicole of being dramatic, just remember what happened when the influencer dared to comment on Kylie Kelce’s Instagram after the death of her beloved dog, Winn. Just a few kind words instantly sparked an online frenzy, with many arguing Nicole’s comment was “messy” and should have been sent privately.

Nicole addressed this ongoing negativity on the podcast as well. “I would be lying if I said that that level of hate and just like online chaos doesn’t impact me. It does,” she said in one clip. “You could go to my most recent post, and there will be people debating each other why I am worthless, and I’ll never be a talented person, and I have no career.”

Nicole says the vitriol she receives “has nothing to do with me,” adding, “I think that there’s something about that level of fame that attracts crazy people, and it’s unfortunate, because I’ve never done anything to warrant that kind of backlash.”

No matter how Kayla Nicole feels about Travis Kelce and his fans at the moment, she did take a moment to clear up one negative rumor about the breakup. When asked if they really split because he was “cheap” and wanted her to pay half of their bills, Nicole set the record straight. “Do I look like I would go 50/50 on bills?” she asked, to which Reese replied, “No.”

“So, yeah, that was ridiculous,” Nicole said. “I don’t even know how people—why that even became a thing. Yeah, that was never an issue in our relationship, but it was definitely a rumor on the internet.”

We may never know what really caused Kayla Nicole and Travis Kelce’s breakup—and that’s okay. “We’re living in this weird time where people feel entitled to know everything about you and your personal life and your professional life, and it’s really nobody’s business,” Nicole said in another clip. “I joke and say, ‘One day I’m gonna pop up and I’m gonna be married with three kids.’”

She continued, “I don’t know why we feel like, ‘Oh, because I wear this influencer title I have to share every aspect of my life with you.’ I just don’t think that that’s something that we all have to subscribe to.”
