Triathlon superstar Magnus Ditlev announces MAJOR IRONMAN vs T100 decision for 2025
Magnus Ditlev knows just what the top of the long-distance triathlon mountain looks like, and now he is going all in on finally reaching the summit.
The Danish superstar has twice come close to becoming IRONMAN World Champion, claiming third place in Nice in 2023 and second in a brutal Kona edition in 2024.
Now Ditlev is keen to continue that trajectory to the top step on the IMWC podium when the race returns to the Cote dâAzur and Nice, France on September 14, 2025.
In 2024 Magnus split his race schedule between preparing for Kona and the new T100 series â he raced four times over that new distance and claimed a win in Miami, fourth-place finishes in San Francisco and London and eighth in the season-ending final in Dubai.
Ditlev goes all in on IRONMAN Pro Series
But 2025 will see the 27-year-old star sidestep T100 to focus his efforts entirely on the IRONMAN Pro Series, which will also be in its second season.
Ditlev says he has made the decision to help him put everything into his biggest goal, which is to top the podium in Nice. It also adds further spice to a fascinating Pro Series, with the likes of Norwegian icons Kristian Blummenfelt and Gustav Iden also heading in the same direction.
Writing in a post on his Instagram account, Magnus explained: âThe 2025 season? I have decided to narrow my focus and chase my biggest motivation in the sport which is becoming Ironman World Champion. For me this means racing only the @ironmantri Pro Series in 2025.â
Ditlev believes narrowing his focus for 2025 will help him concentrate on mitigating what are his perceived weaknesses in the bid to rule on the French Riviera in September. The biggest one he says being the swim (he exited the water 21st in Hawaii last October).

âThis gives me a lot of time, freedom and flexibility to work on some of my weaknesses throughout the year and also the ability to plan the season perfectly around the World Championships. A big one for me is of course the swim where I have been on the back foot in the past two editions of the WCs and my hope is that this approach will give me the best conditions to improve in this area.â
Now the goal is absolutely crystal clear for Magnus â continue that 3/2/1 trajectory to claim gold in Nice.
âI have been on the podium in the past two editions of this race. Third in 2023 and second in 2024⊠My goal is to continue that upward trajectory and climb the top spot of the podium in 2025.â
No Roth for Magnus in 2025?
Ditlev putting all his eggs into the IM Pro Series basket would also appear to rule him out of not only T100 action, but also a bid for a fourth consecutive victory at Germanyâs iconic Challenge Roth.
Magnus won the 2022, 2023 and 2024 editions of Roth, lowering the course record twice with blistering times of 7:24:40 in 2023 and 7:23:24 in 2024.
As well as the glory that the IRONMAN World Championship offers, the Pro Series also gives the potential for a bumper Ditlev payday if he can top the overall Series rankings at the end of 2025. That would mean a maximum bonus of $200,000, a bounty claimed by Italyâs Gregory Barnaby in 2024.
