The Evan Williams team are hitting some form, and the 6-year-old OUT OF FOCUS could easily get in the winner’s enclosure here. The gelding has been hitting the crossbar in recent events, and was below-par last time out when looking a bit of a non-stayer over a longer trip, so should be much happier coming back to the minimum trip on this occasion. A previous Bumper winner at Hereford, he has it in the locker to win this off a mark of 100, and is relatively unexposed on just his eighth start over obstacles.

He has plenty of decent form on a testing surface, so with underfoot conditions likely to be fairly attritional, there should be no problems from that side of things. Conor Ring takes the ride, and this combination look to have a solid claims of landing the spoils here.

Hereford 3.00 – Rocky Hill
ROCKY HILL represents the team of Stan Sheppard and Tom Lacey, and the application of first-time cheekpieces appeared to make a huge difference when runner-up to Another Lord on Handicap debut over C&D last time out. The step up in trip seemed to suit, and this unexposed type is open to further improvement, so has it in the locker to reverse the form with that rival here, crucially meeting on 3lb better terms.

Tom Lacey’s outfit have hit top gear lately, operating at around a 30% strike-rate for the last fortnight. On Rocky Hill’s fifth start over Hurdles, he can take a big step forwards here, and he looks as though he will be well suited by this thorough test of stamina. I am keen on his chances in this field.

Hereford 3.30 – Jack Doyen
JACK DOYEN travelled and on the whole jumped superbly when bolting up over course and distance last time out, and is fancied to go well again here for Ben Case, with Jack Quinlan doing the steering. This isn’t a particularly strong race, and despite being nudged up 5lb to a mark of 84, he should be more than capable of putting up a bold show.

Testing ground is no problem whatsoever, and this small field dynamic should be perfect. As a general rule, this individual’s form has improved since being fitted with blinkers and I see no reason why he can’t get the job done again here.

Hereford 5.00 – El Granjero
EL GRANJERO was rewarded for his consistency, when breaking the deadlock over Hurdles at this venue last time out, when bolting up over a shorter trip, appearing to relish the testing ground in the process. The race was turned into a procession, and this is a poor quality contest – four of his six opponents were pulled-up last time out, so in-form rivals are thin on the ground.

El Granjero looked better the further he went last time out, so this step up in trip can only bring about further improvement on Handicap debut. A mark of 114 could easily underestimate him in this scenario and it would be a bit of an upset if he were beaten. Stan Sheppard is in the plate and can prove a tough nut to crack.
