Ty Masterpool Injures Hand in Supercross Season Debut—Do We See Drew Adams Race 250SX West?
San Diego, CA San DiegoMonster Energy AMA Supercross Championship Ty Masterpool had a tough go in his Monster Energy AMA Supercross season debut in San Diego, California. After Levi Kitchen switched to the 250SX East Region after an illness just days ahead of the Anaheim 1 SX opener, Masterpool jumped into the 250SX West Region alongside Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki teammate Garrett Marchbanks.
In San Diego, Masterpool qualified eighth overall then finished fourth in his heat race. In the main he was running eighth and battling championship leader Jo Shimoda until he had a wild get off on the eighth lap. In the section where some riders were pulling the triple-quad, the #26 machine went long and had a big crash. Luckily, he did not take out Shimoda, who was dealing with two broken fingers in his left hand.

Masterpool got back on his bike and rode around the very outside of the track before pulling off, ending his race early. He earned one single point for 21st (Lux Turner scored 22nd after a mechanical problem earlier in the race).
In our Racer X Review Podcast with Jason Thomas and Jason Weigandt, Steve Matthes said Masterpool suffered broken fingers in his crash. Matthes stated:
“Masterpool broke fingers also. He was in a cast or a soft wrap after the race. Mitch Payton not happy, not happy that he’s out. …Looks like we might see Drew Adams. The reason Drew’s wasn’t racing is because the team’s short on parts, it’s a brand-new bike, so, short on parts, short on mechanics, they need an injury to put Drew Adams in. So, they got an injury, unfortunately, so Drew might jump in, I would think. I don’t know.”
Jason Thomas added, “Yeah, I think they need two guys, per contract stuff.”
“Yeah, so we’ll see what happens there,” Matthes added.
Unfortunately, there is no injury noted about Masterpool in either of the Kawasaki post-race press releases, just that he withdrew from the race after a crash.
Adams is currently on a Supercross Futures deal with the potential to fill-in if there is an injury. Do you think we will see Drew Adams race 250SX West?
