While many people chose to share their reality surrounding the Los Angeles fires in realtime, Tyra Banks opted to delay any announcement of her situation out of respect for other victims. On Sunday (Jan. 19), the supermodel revealed she unfortunately lost her property in the devastating wildfires that ravaged through LA.
Banks, who is currently in Australia working on her SMiZE & DREAM ice cream brand, visited Sunrise and spoke about the moment she realized her home had burned. When asked by the host if she new anyone who lost their home, Banks replied, “I’m one of them. I lost my house.”
The America’s Next Top Model host then explained why she hasn’t publicly revealed the news. “I haven’t really talked about it but, yeah, I have,” she continued. “I just didn’t want to put a lot of attention to me, I feel that there’s a lot of people that need that attention, so I haven’t really talked about it, but I can’t sit here and not tell the truth, so yeah we lost our house.”
“We were celebrating and just having fun. I kept checking my phone, not for my house, but just for friends and family,” she said. “I was just making sure they were evacuating and everything. Then, I asked my partner, ‘I’m seeing something here. What do you think?’ And he said [nods].”
She added that she and her partner chose to have a moment in private to process the loss, saying, “I didn’t say anything to my friends. I just stayed in that moment. Then we went home and we cried. We had our moment.” Thankfully, some of her most precious momentos were safe in her New York property.
Although she didn’t reveal much additional information, Banks did provide an update on her Instagram to her fans about how she’s feeling overall these days. The Life Size actress shared that she’s “head down” and focused in “ice cream world” as she’s working hard on her new brand in this chapter of her life.
