UCLA vs. Tennessee softball live score, updates, highlights from 2025 Women’s College World Series

The 2025 Women’s College World Series continues from Oklahoma City on Sunday. The field is thinning, and two more teams will face elimination on Sunday.

UCLA will take on Tennessee with the loser heading home and the winner staying alive for at least one more game. UCLA matched up with Oregon in the first round of the WCWS, winning 4-2 before taking on Texas Tech in the second round. The Red Raiders came out on top 3-1, as the Bruins struggled to find offense. UCLA’s lone run was a home run by Kaniya Bragg in the fifth inning.

Tennessee had the unfortunate draw of Oklahoma in the first round. The Sooners have won four consecutive national championships and have been a wagon in recent memory. The Lady Vols had the 3-1 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Sooners walked it off with the 4-3 win. Facing elimination for the first time, Tennessee matched up with Florida in the second round. The Lady Volunteers scored 11 runs and run-ruled the Gators in five innings to stay alive.

5:53 p.m. — Ella Dodge lays down a sacrifice bunt to move Pannell to second.

5:51 p.m. — Taylor Pannell just barely misses a walk-off home run, as it goes foul, but she does work a walk to get Tennessee 90 feet closer.

5:47 p.m. — After all of that, Tennessee gets the third out of the inning and will try to walk it off in the bottom of the seventh.

5:43 p.m. — After a nearly 12-minute review, Grant’s run counts. The game is tied. Umpires confirm Grant was assisted after missing home plate but say they determined the play was not reviewable. Just imagine how long the review would have been if the play was reviewable.

oh my lord megan grant hits a game tying 2 run home run in the 7th and misses the plate, but it is upheld because it’s not reviewable!?!?!?

wooooooow. MASSIVE break for ucla. #wcws pic.twitter.com/Wa3xvgpO2g

— Logan (@loganstephens24) June 1, 20255:39 p.m. — Seven minutes later, the review is ongoing. Grant clearly missed the plate at first, but Ramirez, who was not involved in the play, appeared to pull her back to touch it.

5:32 p.m. — Umpires are reviewing whether Megan Grant touched home plate. Replay shows Grant overstepped home plate before going back and touching it after teammate Alexis Ramirez pointed it out, but umpires need to determine whether she was physically assisted in touching it.

Tennessee 4, UCLA 45:30 p.m. HOME RUN — Megan Grant smashes a game-tying home run! What a moment for the Bruins. UCLA, down to its final out, has pulled even with Tennessee with the season on the line.

— NCAA Softball (@NCAASoftball) June 1, 20255:29 p.m. — Woolery hits a long single off the wall, so Megan Grant will be the tying run for UCLA.

5:28 p.m. — Tennessee is one out away from advancing. Woolery is UCLA’s last chance, though nothing she can do alone could tie the game.

5:27 p.m. — Clements pops out for the first out of the inning.

End of sixth inning: Tennessee 4, UCLA 25:23 p.m. — New UCLA pitcher Taylor Tinsley gets three outs, finally retiring Gabby Leach, and the Bruins will have three more outs to work with. They need at least two runs.

5:16 p.m. — UCLA is changing pitchers after a hit-by-pitch. Terry’s day is done on the mound as she moves to right field.

5:10 p.m. — Pickens works her way through the trouble and posts a scoreless inning. Tennessee is three wins away from a date with Texas.

5:05 p.m. — Kaniya Bragg hits a one-out infield single, so UCLA has the tying run coming to the plate in the sixth inning.

5:00 p.m. — Pickens lands awkwardly after her first pitch of the sixth inning, but she appears to be okay after a brief check.

End of fifth inning: Tennessee 4, UCLA 24:56 p.m. — After an extended review didn’t go their way, the Bruins still escape the jam with a groundout. UCLA has six outs to make up a two-run deficit.

4:51 p.m. — UCLA still can’t get out of this inning, as the Vols follow a single with a double and now have runners on second and third base with two outs.

Tennessee 4, UCLA 24:46 p.m. HOME RUN — Taylor Pannell puts Tennessee in front with a 2-run home run to left! The Vols finally break through for the first time since the first inning and are six outs away from advancing.

— NCAA Softball (@NCAASoftball) June 1, 20254:45 p.m. — Gabby Leach’s second hit of the game gives the Vols some life with one out in the fifth.

4:40 p.m. — Pickens strikes out Ramirez, and she is fired up. UCLA misses a huge opportunity to jump into the driver’s seat, and the game remains tied.

4:37 p.m. — Woolery keeps the inning very much alive with a double, and Tennessee is going to intentionally walk Megan Grant to pitch to Alexis Ramirez with the bases loaded and two outs.

4:35 p.m. — Pickens comes right back and strikes out Pola for the second out of the inning.

4:34 p.m. — Clements gives UCLA some life with a one-out infield single as the Bruins look to take their first lead of the day.

End of fourth inning: Tennessee 2, UCLA 24:29 p.m. — Terry is cruising now, striking out two more in the fourth and preventing Tennessee from even putting any pressure on in this tied game. We’re all even through four.

4:23 p.m. — Pickens gets the job done, striking out Mujica after allowing the home run in the second inning.

4:21 p.m. — Pickens will have to work around another two-out walk to get through the fourth inning unscathed.

End of third inning: Tennessee 2, UCLA 24:12 p.m. — Tennessee continues to make Terry work, but she’s getting outs. She’s now retired seven of the last eight batters she’s faced and has posted back-to-back scoreless frames.

4:07 p.m. — Pickens works around a two-out walk to get through a scoreless top of the third inning.

4:04 p.m. — Pickens gets two quick outs against the top of the UCLA order to start the third.

End of second inning: Tennessee 2, UCLA 23:58 p.m. — Terry has thrown plenty of pitches, but she gets through a scoreless second inning. We’re still tied at two.

3:56 p.m. — Gabby Leach laces a two-out single to keep the inning alive for Tennessee.

3:52 p.m. — Tennessee is really making Terry work, as she’s recorded five outs on 43 pitches. Still, she’s an out away from a scoreless second inning.

3:43 p.m. — Pickens gets out of the inning, but not before some serious damage by UCLA. Let’s see if Tennessee can respond.

Tennessee 2, UCLA 23:42 p.m. HOME RUN — Sofia Mujica ties the game at two with a blast to centerfield! The bottom of UCLA’s lineup has tagged Pickens for two runs here in the second.

— NCAA Softball (@NCAASoftball) June 1, 20253:41 p.m. — Pickens responds to the home run with back-to-back strikeouts.

Tennessee 2, UCLA 13:37 p.m. HOME RUN — Alexis Ramirez blasts a solo home run to cut Tennessee’s lead in half! UCLA is on the board in the second inning.

End of first inning: Tennessee 2, UCLA 03:33 p.m. — UCLA induces a flyout to end the inning, but pressure is already on the Bruins’ offense to get moving.

Tennessee 2, UCLA 03:32 p.m. 2-RUN SINGLE — Laura Mealer delivers a 2-run single to put Tennessee on the board!

— NCAA Softball (@NCAASoftball) June 1, 20253:28 p.m. — Wow, a collision in the outfield still results in the second out of the inning. Tennessee has one more chance to cash in here.

3:28 p.m. — Taylor Pennell and Ella Dodge come through with back-to-back singles with one out.

3:25 p.m. — Kaitlyn Terry starts her day with a strikeout.

3:21 p.m. — Now there is some confusion: Tennessee loses a pop fly in the sun, but an infield fly rule is called. Clements wasn’t aware and believed she was out as well at third, so she ran back to the dugout and was called out for abandoning the base. Either way, Tennessee gets out of the jam..

3:19 p.m. — A bobbled ball puts Jordan Woolery at first. That’ll count as a single, and UCLA has runners on first and second with one out. An early test for Pickens.

3:17 p.m. — Pickens bounces back with a strikeout of Savannah Pola.

3:15 p.m. — We are off with a 75 mph first pitch from Pickens. Her next pitch is dumped into left field for a single by Jessica Clements.

3:06 p.m. — Karlyn Pickens, owner of the fastest pitch in softball history, is warming up and about ready to go. First pitch is coming up shortly.

3:01 p.m. — First pitch between UCLA and Tennessee is coming up in a matter of minutes.

2:52 p.m. — And Tennessee’s lineup:

— UCLA Softball (@UCLASoftball) June 1, 20252:30 p.m. — The winner here will get Texas, which sent Oklahoma into an elimination game with a 4-2 win on Saturday.

2:05 p.m. — Tennessee has had the hotter offense in the Women’s College World Series with 14 runs through two games, but UCLA has allowed only five runs. If the Bruins can quiet the Volunteers’ offense, they have to feel great about their chances to stay alive.
