UFC Paris loses cage legend’s fight after massive weight miss by debuting former OKTAGON champion

UFC Paris has lost yet another main card fight after Losene Keita drastically missed weight for his fight with Patricio Pitbull.

Bellator legend Pitbull was due to make his third octagon outing within just five months against OKTAGON champion Keita to open the main card tomorrow night. But the Brazilian had his heart broken when his rival missed weight and opted not to weigh in again.

Keita and Pitbull are both known for being two-weight champions in their respective previous promotions. Tomorrow would have been the Belgian’s debut under the UFC banner, but it remains to be seen when – if at all – he will fight again.

Who is Patricio Pitbull? The Bellator legend taking on the UFCLosene Keita misses weight for UFC Paris and fight is cancelledLosene Keita arrived relatively early to the scales this morning, opting to use the curtain before tipping the scales at 149lb. The extended featherweight limit for non-title fights is 146lb, meaning he was over by 3lb.

While a 3lb miss might seem like an insignificant amount of weight for one to miss, it usually indicates that another issue arose during the cut. If a fighter can’t get to within at least a pound or two, generally there was an underlying problem, although nothing has been confirmed as yet regarding Keita.

Having made championship weight at 145lb and standing on the verge of a top ten spot, Patricio Pitbull would have faced a stiff test had he accepted the fight at a catchweight. The bout was quickly cancelled with the UFC officially citing “weight management issues”.

UFC Paris main event official as weigh-in is otherwise uneventfulLuckily for fight fans, after the loss of two main card bouts over the last week, it was an otherwise relatively uneventful weigh-in for UFC Paris. Most importantly, Caio Borralho and Nassourdine Imavov both tipped the scales at championship weight of 185lb.

The co-main event is also secure as Benoit Saint-Denis and Mauricio Ruffy both tipped the scales under the lightweight limit. Even late-notice addition Harry Hardwick managed to make lightweight at 156lb despite stepping in on just days’ notice to face Kaue Fernandes.
