In the early ’90s, Uncle Luke took his battle for the freedom to create raunchy music all the way to the Supreme Court. Of course, he won and changed the trajectory of Hip Hop as we know it. But now, several decades later, the 2 Live Crew frontman thinks that the genre’s leading ladies owe him money for being able to rap about whatever they want.
On Monday (Aug. 26), Luke called out Megan Thee Stallion, Ice Spice and Sexyy Red in particular. “Male rap is on some bulls**t right now,” he claimed on Instagram Live. “I’m sorry. The females are winning. They’re doing everything that I did. I’m still waiting for these girls to send me a f**king check.”
“I need a check from Ice Spice, who turns her a** around and drops it like it’s hot,” the Luke Records founder exclaimed. “I need a check from Sexyy Red — nah, Red [is] my friend… All the f**king girls, Megan Thee Stallion. Anybody that’s running around shaking their a**es, talking about p**sy and d**k on the record, y’all need to send me a check.”
At the time of reporting, none of the artists Luke name-dropped have responded. However, all three of them have been on a meteoric run in 2024. Megan wrapped up her global “Hot Girl Summer Tour” in August. The trek arrived in promotion of her self-titled studio album, which housed the chart-topping “HISS,” “Cobra” and “BOA” — the last-mentioned song is up for four awards at the 2024 MTV VMAs.
Similarly, Ice Spice’s “Y2K! World Tour” finished up its U.K. and Europe leg and is currently sweeping through North America. She will make a stop in Houston on Monday night, followed by Atlanta and Miami Beach on Wednesday (Aug. 28) and Saturday (Aug. 31), respectively. Sexyy Red also embarked on a tour for her May mixtape, In Sexyy We Trust.
