Jon Moxley vs. Orange Cassidy
In the presumptive main event of Full Gear, Orange Cassidy will look to seize control of both the AEW World Championship and AEW as a whole from Jon Moxley.
Ever since beating Bryan Danielson for the title at WrestleDream last month, Mox and his Death Riders faction have enjoyed a reign of terror over AEW, destroying everyone and everything in their path.
Given his status as an AEW original and longtime rival of Moxley, Cassidy has stepped up and attempted to lead the resistance, and he could strike a huge blow at Full Gear by winning the title.
Saturday’s match will be a full-circle moment for Moxley and Cassidy in many respects since they faced each other at Full Gear last year with OC beating Mox to retain the International Championship.
If the result is the same this time around, it would undoubtedly mark the biggest win of Cassidy’s career, although he faces an uphill climb with Claudio Castagnoli, Pac, Marina Shafir and Wheeler Yuta likely to get involved on Moxley’s behalf.
It is widely expected that Moxley will win and retain since it is still early in his reign, but the match still promises be a great one based on the chemistry Mox and Cassidy proved they had with each other in previous encounters.
Mercedes Moné vs. Kris Statlander
Mercedes Moné has now been TBS champion for nearly six months, and she will face arguably her toughest test yet at Full Gear.
Over the past several weeks, Mercedes has been at odds with Kris Statlander, who recently turned babyface and refocused by setting her sights on the TBS title and one of the biggest stars in AEW.
Statlander has been a force during her rivalry with Moné, taking down her bodyguard Kamille on numerous occasions, which suggests it could be a fair, one-on-one contest at Full Gear.
Holding the TBS title isn’t a foreign concept to Statlander, as she held it for 174 days after ending Jade Cargill’s record reign of 508 days in May 2023.
She has a clear size and strength advantage over Mercedes, but The CEO is as crafty and savvy as they come, which could make for the ideal dichotomy in styles.
Mercedes has yet to lose a match in AEW, but if there are designs on her going after the AEW Women’s World Championship in the near future, Statlander could be the right choice to hand MonĂ© her first defeat.
Swerve Strickland vs. Bobby Lashley
A potential future main eventer and AEW world champion is set to make his AEW pay-per-view debut on Saturday in the form of Bobby Lashley.
Lashley previously held world titles in both WWE and TNA, and given his size, strength and legitimacy, it may not be long before he is atop the mountain in AEW as well.
The 48-year-old veteran recently made his AEW debut by aligning himself with MVP and Shelton Benjamin to form the Hurt Syndicate. Their main target has been former AEW world champion Swerve Strickland, who declined an invitation to join the group.
While Lashley is looking to use Swerve as a stepping stone to the top, Strickland has already been there, and a win over Lashley could perhaps go a long way toward getting him back in the world title conversation.
Regardless of what the future holds for both performers, there is reason to believe they have the ability to put on the match of the night despite the stacked nature of the Full Gear card.
The strength and physicality of Lashley figure to mesh perfectly with the speed and athleticism of Strickland, meaning everything is in place for them to tear the house down in Newark.
