Uzumaki Scares Up September Release Date for Uzumaki With Spine-Chilling Teaser Trailer | SDCC 2024
Adult Swim’s long-in-development anime Uzumaki has been given a release date of September 28, 2024.
A date for the highly anticipated anime adaptation of horror legend Junji Ito’s manga of the same name was revealed during a Rick and Morty: The Anime panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 today. Along with the reveal was a new teaser trailer that shows off only a small snippet of how some of its twisted creations have been brought into the world of animation.

— adult swim (@adultswim) July 26, 2024 Adult Swim shared an official description for Uzumaki:
“‘Let’s leave this town together,’ asks Shuichi Saito, a former classmate of Kirie Goshima, a high school girl who was born and grew up in Kurouzu-cho. Everything from a strange whirlwind, billowing smoke from the crematorium, and the residents is turning into spirals. People’s eyes spin in whirls, a tongue spirals, and the bodies twist unnaturally. In an attempt to escape the curse of the spirals, Kirie decides to flee from Kurouzu-cho, but can she get away from this turmoil?”
No one can bring nightmares to life like Ito, which is exactly why anime fans have been so excited to see Uzumaki get an adaptation. A few months back, Adult Swim announced that the show would premiere before the year came to a close, but today’s announcement is the first we’re hearing about a specific date. When promising a 2024 launch, the team behind the project said they wanted to spend the time necessary to ensure it lived up not only to their expectations but the high bar set by Ito and the original Uzumaki.
“We remain fully committed to pursuing the completion of this work at the highest caliber,” they said at the time. “We’ll be back with a firm premiere date once we are confident this adaptation is as good as we know it can be.”
Uzumaki will premiere on Adult Swim on September 28 and will come to Max the following day. In a description for the video on YouTube, Adult Swim says English dub encores will premiere on Thursdays.
