Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins turned 36 on Monday, and the team released his birthday practice playlist, which is essentially a list of hit rock songs from the 2000s.

That playlist went viral, and Cousins was asked about it during a Friday appearance on The Rich Eisen Show (conversation begins at 14:45 mark).
Cousins clarified that the team solicited requests “on the team app” in April for songs to play at practice, and he then sent “100-plus” tracks in return.
Fast-forward to Monday, and Cousins recounted how song after song during practice were among his favorites. The playlist is run by a coach’s assistant, and Cousins provided compliments to that person. It turns out the playlist was custom-made for Cousins, who clearly enjoyed the moment.
Cousins also noted that many of those songs were from his middle and high school days before adding, with a smile, that the “sad reality” is “most of” his teammates don’t know any of the songs because there’s a “12-year age gap” between him and them.
“When I was in middle school listening to them, they were like four years old, so sometimes I got to teach them what the 1990s were like and hope for the best,” Cousins added.
Cousins is in his first year with the Falcons after signing a four-year, $180 million contract with them in the offseason. Atlanta opens the regular season on Sept. 8 at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
