Descriptions:
The word meditate in Hebrew means “hagah” which means to speak, utter, study, rehearse, and muse over something internally. On the other hand it could be “Siyach” which is translated “ meditation” which can be either internal musing or spoken aloud. In both cases, it means to ponder something until you understand. Thus; thinking on, remembering, and considering the truths of God’s word. Christian meditation is a biblical meditation which involves reading, earnestly contemplating, personalizing, visualizing and praying God’s word. Simply, focusing on the word of God, and examines it from different perspectives. For believers, meditation means having “the word of Christ dwell in you richly” Colossians 3:16. When a believer meditates, he or she fills his or her mind with the truths of God so that his life becomes controlled by the attitude and character of the savior. But sadly, over the years believers have lost a regular focus on Christian meditation. The Reformers and Puritans of our faith regularly wrote, taught, and exhorted the people of God to a life of meditation. Now, this strong emphasis encouraged by these great men who walked with God has largely diminished. It is very sad to know that, in recent years many Christians associate meditation with false religion. They view meditation as a process of emptying the mind rather than, as Scripture commands, filling the mind with divinely revealed truth. Pinning the ongoing battle for the minds and hearts of the current generation, this is especially serious and needs to be addressed quickly. When we don’t return to the
delightful duty of biblical meditation, believers will continue to handle God’s Word as mere intellectual. They will fail to digest the Scriptures to make them his daily walk and practice.
