**Headline:** Manitoba Prioritizes Skilled Worker Support to Meet Regional Economic Goals
**Subheadline:** Collaboration with Provinces Key to Transitioning Temporary Residents to Permanent Residence
**Body:**
In a bid to bolster Manitoba’s workforce and meet regional economic targets, the provincial government is doubling down on supporting skilled workers. The Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, emphasized the significance of this measure in aligning with the province’s priority of transitioning a greater number of temporary residents to permanent residence status.
Echoing this sentiment, The Honourable Malaya Marcelino, Minister of Labour and Immigration, highlighted the pivotal role of new Canadians in shaping Manitoba’s future success. By extending temporary resident status for potential nominees, the province aims to retain essential skills and knowledge vital for fostering a robust and diverse workforce.
With immigration serving as the primary driver of Canada’s labour force growth, and projected to account for the entirety of population growth by 2032, the focus on skilled migration is paramount. In 2022, the Provincial Nominee Program facilitated 20% of all permanent resident admissions, directly aiding provinces and territories in addressing labour market needs. This trend continued in 2023, with the program representing nearly 40% of planned economic admissions, making it the largest economic immigration avenue outlined under the Immigration Levels Plan.
The impact of these efforts is palpable, with nearly 157,000 individuals transitioning from worker status to permanent residence nationally in 2023 alone. For Manitoba specifically, over 10,000 individuals made this transition, underscoring the province’s commitment to nurturing a skilled and diverse workforce poised to drive economic growth and innovation.
How can we het there 🙄🙄🙄
