Vikings Get the Last Laugh against Texans Familiar Faces

The Minnesota Vikings knocked off the Houston Texans on Sunday. In doing so, they bested familiar faces in the form of both Stefon Diggs and Danielle Hunter. The former wide receiver got his yardage, but Kevin O’Connell’s club got the job done and ended the week with a victory.

Stefon Diggs certainly had this game circled on his calendar since he forced a trade from the Buffalo Bills. The new Houston wide receiver was returning to U.S. Bank Stadium for the first time as a visitor. It should have been expected that he would look to do damage, and he certainly made his mark.

C.J. Stroud did not have the same impact he has been accustomed to since his time in the NFL began. He did target Diggs a team-high 12 times, and his wide receiver hauled in 10 of those passes for 94 yards. It was Diggs’ best game of the season and the best with his new team. Minnesota kept him out of the end zone, though, and all of the production was for naught.

It wasn’t just Diggs, either. Danielle Hunter joined the Texans this offseason when his hometown team offered him the bag. Minnesota opted to go with Jonathan Greenard instead, and they also came out on the better end of that matchup. Hunter couldn’t sack Sam Darnold, though he did rough him on the play that sent the Vikings cornerback to the tent.

Meanwhile, the Vikings’ new edge rusher went nuts with three sacks on the day. It was a huge showing for Greenard. Not only was he looking to make an impact against the franchise that let him go, but it also came on a day when rookie edge rusher Dallas Turner was inactive due to injury.

Nothing about the Vikings’ victory over the Texans has Minnesota looking to figure out where they went wrong. Kevin O’Connell will spend the next few days looking to improve his team, but the reality is that they are currently clicking on all cylinders. Minnesota’s offense was on fire Sunday, and the defense controlled one of the best young quarterbacks in the game.
