Violent Assailants Beat Las Vegas Visitor
A couple was visiting Las Vegas to celebrate when the husband was attacked by two angry men on the street. The attack happened in broad daylight in a busy area of the city.
A Holiday Ruined by Violence
Mitchell and Michelle Stonebarger were on a holiday in Las Vegas to celebrate the sixth anniversary of their wedding. They had just checked into the Paris Las Vegas hotel and went out for a walk, unaware that things would soon turn violent.
The excited husband had taken out a camera to take a video of the city in a popular tourist area – something tourists usually do when visiting a new place. However, things got ugly as the Stonebargers passed two men in blue shirts wearing what appeared to be name tag necklace holders around their necks.
Displeased with the fact they had been caught on camera, the men ran after Stonebarger, swearing at him for “putting his camera in their face.”
Stonebarger described the men as incredibly violent. Even as he turned off his camera, the men continued their assault and punched him. He fell to the ground and was kicked, his camera – smashed.
He was later able to recover footage of the attack but his camera was broken. Online commentators who saw the footage have since suggested that the two assailants might have been wanted people or involved in crime, although the local police have yet to confirm any such notion.
The Stonebargers Wish They Hadn’t Visited Vegas
Luckily, Stonebarger isn’t in any immediate danger. While the husband admitted that he wasn’t hit at full force, he still woke up with a swollen eye and a bruised nose. Despite suffering only what appeared to be minor injuries, Stonebarger was left afraid. On top of that, he had to spend time at the hospital and the police’s office instead of enjoying his holiday.
The man said that he was shocked that something like this could happen in broad daylight in the middle of Las Vegas. He noted that no one tried to assist him during the attack or checked on him after.
Mitchell told reporters that people visiting Las Vegas should be careful.
The incident comes amid a concerning rise in Vegas crime. The FBI just reported its crime statistics for 2023, recording an increase in offenses. As such cases grow in number, the local police continue their efforts to secure a safe tourist corridor.
