Vitality Stumble in Day Two of BLAST Premier Spring Groups 2024

After day two of the BLAST Premier Spring Groups 2024, we have a better picture of who will be progressing directly to the Spring Finals, and who will have to make it through the Spring Showdown. A few teams fared better than others with one result in particular proving surprising.

The big surprise of the day came through Vitality, and not in a good way. While Astralis impressed against Falcons on day one of the BLAST Premier Spring Groups, Vitality was thought of as a step too far for a roster so early in its lifespan.

Step up, dev1ce and friends. Astralis put Vitality to the sword in a 2:1 affair, leaving us to wonder whether the match was the result of a bad showing from Vitality or a sign of the potential ceiling for the Danes. Vitality IGL apEX was certainly left frustrated, making his feelings clear after the game on X.

It was no doubt uncharacteristically poor from Vitality, who were expected to sweep Group A with little resistance. Now, they must complete a Lower Bracket run, where Falcons await. If they can put this loss behind them to beat Falcons, they’ll have the chance to rematch Astralis for the Group A slot in the BLAST Premier Spring Final 2024, later this week.

A successful day for NAVI

Elsewhere in Group C, it was a successful day for NAVI, who managed to rescue multiple map points to secure two maps against G2. It was a statement of their mentality that they managed to stay in the tie, when it easily could have been 2:0, done and dusted on another day.

Of all the players, the biggest props must go to iM. Written off by many after his first few months on NAVI, the rifler has finally begun to consistently show the form that made him such a coveted player after the BLAST Paris Major. It was his 1v3 clutch that turned the tide of the final map against G2, putting NAVI in the driving seat of Group A at the BLAST Premier Spring Groups.

NAVI’s reward is a place in the Group C Grand Final. They’ll face either G2 (again) or NIP, who overcame the odds to best Complexity 2:0 in the Lower Bracket. With the way NAVI are playing right now, we fancy them to come out on top regardless of opponent.
