Wadlow, Watkins In Running To Direct “Clayface”
Warner Bros.
Jeff Wadlow (“Imaginary,” “Kick-Ass 2”) and James Watkins (“Speak No Evil,” “The Woman in Black”) have reportedly emerged as the front runners to direct the “Clayface” film at Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios.
Scooper MyTimeToShineH first reported on Watkins as a possibility last Friday, but the Wadlow possibility is new with Deadline breaking that one. They also indicate pitches from the potential filmmakers will take place next week and the casting process has already begun.
Whomever wins will be helming from a script by Mike Flanagan (“Doctor Sleep,” “Midnight Mass,” “The Fall of the House of Usher”) in what has been dubbed a “standalone tragedy-laced horror/thriller” based on the shape-shifting Batman villain character.
Flanagan isn’t doing it himself due to his commitments to directing a new “The Exorcist” film at Universal and developing a “Carrie” TV series for Amazon MGM Studios.
Clayface is mostly known via Ron Perlman’s performance in the 1990s “Batman: The Animated Series” along with animated series like “Harley Quinn” and “Creature Commandos” – in both cases voiced by Alan Tudyk.
“Clayface” is targeting a theatrical release date of September 11th 2026.
