In one of the most pressure-packed games of the college football season so far, 17-year-old Alabama wide receiver Ryan Williams didn’t flinch. With 2:31 to go in the game, the Tide appeared to be on the ropes after Georgia took a 34-33 lead on a 67-yard touchdown pass from Carson Beck to Dillon Bell, erasing what had been a 28-point Alabama lead. With his team facing its first deficit of the night, Williams made the play of the game. The freshman phenom hauled in a long pass from Jalen Milroe, danced around a pair of Bulldog defenders and raced 75 yards to the end zone to put his team back in front for good at 41-34.
The touchdown would stand as the difference in the game after Alabama defensive back Zabien Brown stepped in front of a Beck pass in the end zone to end Georgia’s last-minute drive and seal the win for the Tide.
It was Williams’ second highlight-reel play in teh game. In the third quarter he hauled in a pass off the tip drill for a 54-yard gain to put him over the 100-yard mark for the second time in his career. He recorded two catches for 139 yards and two touchdowns in his college debut against Western Kentucky last month.Â
Williams finished with six catches for 177 yards on the night.
The No. 8 overall in the 2024 recruiting cycle according to 247Sports, Williams has scored a touchdown in his first four games at Alabama. He is the team’s Alabama’s leader in catches, yards and receiving touchdowns.
