When defenseman Cam Fowler took the ice for the St. Louis Blues in the Winter Classic at Wrigley Field on Tuesday evening, it was a big milestone game for him.

He became the first player in the NHL to ever play their 1,000th NHL game in an outdoor game, adding an extra layer of excitement to the day. Then, he added to that excitement by opening the scoring with his second goal of the season.

Have a look:

Fowler was acquired by the Blues earlier this month in a trade with the Anaheim Ducks, giving him the opportunity to play in Tuesday’s annual outdoor game against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Goals are simply not a big part of Fowler’s game, as he has just six since the start of the 2023-24 season, so the fact he was the player to open the scoring was probably more than a little unexpected.

When he opened the season in Anaheim, he probably had no thought of playing in this game. He not only did, but it also turned out to be one of the more memorable regular-season games he has probably ever played in.
