Ian Machado Garry faces a pivotal bout this weekend.

The Dubliner will seek to rebound from his first career defeat in December against future title contender Shavkat Rakhmonov when he fights the dangerous striker Carlos Prates in the main event of the UFC’s event in Kansas City this weekend. In Prates, Garry will take on one of the most effective finishers in recent welterweight history who has won each of his past ten fights by knockout (or TKO) inside the first two rounds — a resume somewhat similar to that of Rakhmonov, who had a 100% finish rate until he met Garry in the cage.

While Garry is adamant that he is superior to Prates in practically every scenario, many suspect that he may have to employ a grapple heavy approach if he is to avoid a second successive loss on his record — similar, in a sense, to the gameplan that he showed against another dynamic striker, Michael ‘Venom’ Page in their bout last summer.
