Watch: These costly turnovers prevented two Top 25 upsets
College football fans nearly got a chaotic start to Week 2. At one point, five Top 25 teams were trailing in the second half of their respective games during the noon ET kickoff window.
By the time those games went final, two of the five succumbed to the upset: No. 23 Georgia Tech and No. 10 Michigan.
No. 16 Oklahoma State needed a wild double overtime to survive a challenge from Arkansas. These teams, however, got handed parachutes from their opponents at crucial moments.
Bowling Green’s back-breaking interception gifts Penn State late TD
The No. 8 Nittany Lions were in trouble for most of the game, trailing or tied with Bowling Green until late in the third quarter. With the Falcons down 27-24 in the fourth quarter, quarterback Connor Bazelak overthrew his receiver and was picked off.

On the very next play, Penn State running back Nicholas Singleton took the ball to the house for the game-sealing score. Despite Bowling Green hitting a late field goal, Penn State would ultimately recover the attempted onside kick to escape the upset bid 34-27.
Bazelak had a nice moment after the game with Penn State defensive coordinator Tom Allen, who comforted him for an extended period. The two know each other from their days at Indiana.Â
No. 17 Kansas State’s end zone pick vs Tulane
Tulane actually led most of this game until the fourth quarter, then had to try and claw itself back into it late. The Green Wave got to the red zone with less than a minute remaining and thought they had scored the game-tying touchdown.
However, a controversial offensive pass interference call backed Tulane up outside the 10-yard line. On the next play, quarterback Darian Mensah misjudged the throw and sent the ball directly to Kansas State safety V.J. Payne for the game-ending pick.

Mensah also made a critical mistake earlier in the game when he was sacked and stripped of the ball. Kansas State recovered and returned the ball for a game-leading touchdown. From that point, the Wildcats would never look back.
