We’ll not derail government business — Afenyo-Markin assures

The Minority in Parliament has reaffirmed its commitment not to obstruct government business in the House, despite recent tensions.

Addressing the press on Friday, January 31, 2025, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin emphasised that his caucus has been cooperating with the Majority side in all parliamentary proceedings.

He urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs to recognise the Minority’s crucial role in governance, following its victory in the recent elections.

“The NDC must understand that they have won an election, and they are to govern with us,” Mr. Afenyo-Markin stated, reinforcing the Minority’s relevance in the legislative process.

While acknowledging that the Minority is outnumbered, he insisted that they remain a formidable force in Parliament.

“We may be fewer, but we are mighty. We will not be intimidated or bullied into submission,” he declared.

His remarks come in the wake of Thursday’s chaotic Appointments Committee sitting, where disagreements over late-night vetting led to some Minority MPs damaging tables and microphones in protest.
