But after the athletic department installed additional seats for corporate sponsors on the east and west sidelines, seats declined and today, LaVell Edwards Stadium can hold 62,073 people. Okay, originally known as Cougar Stadium, the stadium could accommodate 5,000 spectators when it debuted sixty years ago. Then, LaVell Edwards took over as BYU’s head coach after 29 years as the team’s assistant coach for 10 years. At the conclusion of the 2000 season, the stadium was formally renamed in his honor before to his last home game as head coach. But the trip wasn’t as easy as a screenplay for a movie.
