The 23-year-old Pacheco (22-0) has quickly climbed the ladder at super middleweight. The eight-time National Champion is currently ranked number one by the WBO, third in the WBC rankings, and sixth in the IBF rankings. His most impressive win to date was a knockout victory in August against Maciej Sulecki.

Pacheco dreams of holding gold. A win against Nelson could start a run where a title fight at the end of the year is more reality than dream.

“I feel that after putting on a great performance with Steven Nelson on January 25, I’ll be closer to fighting for a world title,” Pacheco said. “Obviously, Canelo has three of the belts, and [William] Scull has the other belt. Either one who’d like to give me the opportunity–-that’d be amazing.

“Who will be the one that is going to give me the challenge? I don’t know, but hopefully, this year, I get to fight for a world title. I’m turning 24 this year, and I think this is the right time. I feel that now I have amassed the strength. I’m more focused than ever, and I’m ready.”

Nelson (20-0) has only competed three times from 2022 to 2024 after fighting twice in 2020. The 36-year-old Golden Gloves champion has 16 wins via knockout.
