A classic cross-state volleyball rivalry will be reignited Thursday as No. 3 Louisville hosts No. 6 Kentucky.

Last year’s NCAA tournament runner-up Louisville has already proven it’s back with a vengeance. The Cards are 7-1 so far, falling only to No. 2 Texas in a five-set thriller on Sept. 10. Cara Cresse, Kalyssa Blackshear and Payton Petersen make for a lethal trio in the front row. 

Meanwhile, Kentucky has been fighting to stay inside the national top 10. The Wildcats have pulled off impressive wins over opponents like Penn State and SMU, but could not upset Nebraska or Pitt. Kentucky’s rock-solid defense makes it a threat, along with freshman setter Kassie O’Brien, who runs the offense with ease.
