Which players are the worst finishers in the Premier League?

Here are the top 10 players owned by their xG through the Premier League season so far. Everton have an issue.

These are the Premier League stars whose goals tally lags their xG most. For the less fun list of players outstripping their xG numbers, go here.

1) Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton): -4.9

Expected goals: 7.9

Actual goals: 3

His xG this season is slightly better than that of Joao Pedro, Jarrod Bowen, Bukayo Saka and Son Heung-Min. His goal count is not. With a better striker, Everton would surely be out of relegation trouble.

2) Darwin Nunez (Liverpool): -3.8

Expected goals: 10.8

Actual goals: 7

He takes more shots per 90 than any other Premier League player but the truth is that he is far from good enough to be the central striker in a team with Premier League title aspirations. He had ten (10) shots v Chelsea without scoring. He’s hit the woodwork nine (9) times this season.

3) Nicolas Jackson (Chelsea): -3.6

Expected goals: 10.6

Actual goals: 7

He could actually end the season in the top three of Premier League goalscorers and still be on this list, such is the unnaturalness of his finishing. He’s still got no idea how he didn’t score v Crystal Palace.

4) Enzo Fernández (Chelsea): -2.9

Expected goals: 4.9

Actual goals: 2

It’s not his only job but it’s one of many he’s not doing very well at all. And that’s before we mention that exorbitant price tag.

5) Yoane Wissa (Brentford): -2.5

Expected goals: 6.5

Actual goals: 4

He still has no idea how he didn’t score v Crystal Palace as Brentford slumped into a crisis without Ivan Toney.

6) Beto (Everton): -2.2

Expected goals: 3.2

Actual goals: 1

It’s almost impressive that he has had 26 shots and only four have hit the target.

7) Pedro Porro (Tottenham): -2.1

Expected goals: 2.1

Actual goals: 0

Has taken 36 shots in the Premier League without scoring a goal. He is a right-back. For perspective, that’s more shots taken than Gabriel Jesus. That’s Angeball.

8) Jefferson Lerma (Crystal Palace): -2.1

Expected goals: 2.1

Actual goals: 0

It’s not really his job bit he does keep trying; the shot count is now up to 22 without a goal.

9) Brennan Johnson (Tottenham): -2.1

Expected goals: 4.1

Actual goals: 2

Not short of the confidence to take shots. A bit short of the finishing prowess to actually score them.

10) Said Benrahma (West Ham): -1.8

Expected goals: 1.8

Actual goals: 0

No wonder he is on his way out of West Ham.
