World Series 2024 live score: Dodgers vs. Yankees updates, results, highlights from Game 3
After two games of the 2024 World Series, the Dodgers are in command.
Los Angeles has won, and hosted, the first two games of the World Series against the Yankees. On Friday, it took some drama: A walk off grand slam from Freddie Freeman, the first in World Series history, gave the Dodgers a 6-3 win.
Then, a standout performance from Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the mound, plus home runs from Tommy Edman, Teoscar Hernandez and Freeman, helped Los Angeles claim a 4-2 victory in Game 2 on Saturday. Now, the Dodgers are just two wins away from a title.
However, they’ll face a different environment as the World Series matchup now heads to the Bronx. On Monday, New York will take over home field advantage through Game 5, if necessary.
Despite the Dodgers owning a 2-0 series lead, both championship games so far have had back-and-forth action. As expected, the widespread collection of superstars has resulted in a World Series power surge; Juan Soto and Giancarlo Stanton both have homers for the Yankees, while Freeman, who’s had two home runs and a triple, looks like the early favorite for World Series MVP.
Each team’s biggest star, Aaron Judge for New York and Shohei Ohtani for Los Angeles, hasn’t had a huge impact yet, though. Judge is just 1-for-9 with six strikeouts to begin the World Series, while Ohtani is 1-for-8 and left Game 2 with a shoulder injury. Ohtani, a huge presence in the Dodgers’ lineup, is reportedly good to go in Game 3.
The Yankees, who will give Clarke Schmidt the ball Monday, virtually need a win to have a fighting chance at getting back in the series. The Dodgers, who have Walker Buehler starting on the mound, could move within one win of a championship.
