Worst trade in NFL history and $230m contract disaster force Cleveland Browns to fire another coach

The Cleveland Browns cannot fire Deshaun Watson.

But one of the NFL’s most disappointing teams needed a scapegoat on Sunday, and fans believe that Cleveland found it with one sudden firing.

Cleveland’s offense struggled in 2024, with the 3-14 Browns ranked 28th in total offense and last in the NFL in scoring.

But Dorsey inherited Watson as his quarterback, and one of the least liked players in Cleveland history was the real problem for the Browns’ woeful offense.

“He wont be jobless for long,” one fan tweeted. “For the Browns, it’s much deeper than just Ken Dorsey.”

“Why is Dorsey always the scapegoat?” a third fan wrote.

“Now do Deshaun Watson,” a fourth fan said.

Cleveland engaged in a bidding war to acquire Watson, then gave the controversial QB a fully guaranteed $230million contract.

Since then, Watson is 9-10 during three injury-plagued seasons with the Browns.

He hasn’t come close to reaching the heights of his playing days with the Houston Texans, while the trade for Watson and his $230m contract are widely considered to be among the worst in NFL history.

Ken Dorsey is already out in Cleveland after only one year as the Browns’ OCCredit: GettyDorsey was fired less than 24 hours after the Browns’ season ended.

Cleveland also axed Andy Dickerson as offensive line coach.

Browns defensive star Myles Garrett said that this year’s 3-14 Browns team was even more disappointing than a 2017 squad that went 0-16 and failed to win a game.

“It’s probably a more disappointing season because of what we expected out of ourselves,” Garrett said.

Cleveland will possess a top-three pick in the 2025 NFL draft.

But Watson is set to receive $46m in each of the next two seasons, and many Browns fans want the team to completely move on from the veteran QB.

Cleveland sacked Dorsey to move on from a disappointing 2024.

Fixing the Watson problem will take significantly more effort by the Browns and could lead to more firings.
