To celebrate his long-standing presence in wrestling, the 58-year-old has been confirmed as the first entry in to the Hall of Fame this year.

An official induction will take place ahead of WrestleMania 40 on April 5 at the Wells Fargo Centre in Philadelphia, which is where his ECW was based.

READ MORE ON WWEKnown for his hardcore style and cult following, ECW offered a true alternative to the entertainment-based style of what was then the WWF, and its main competitor in WCW.

“The extreme in ECW stood for the work ethic involved, the passion that was necessary and the extreme connection to an audience to whom and for whom we were always obsessed with underpromising and overdelivering,” Heyman told AP.

“The legacy of ECW is firmly rooted in the very simple concepts of paying attention to the cultural curve and obsessively trying to stay a few steps ahead of it.”

Heyman’s fellow Hall of Famers are yet to be announced but he joins a list of legends who have previously received the honour.
