Trick Williams would face Noam Dar this week on WWE NXT. Could he continue to build his momentum toward a showdown with Carmelo Hayes at Stand & Deliver?Credit: WWE.com.
NXT Stand & Deliver is rapidly approaching, and the March 19 edition of NXT had a chance to set up a clear vision for WrestleMania weekend.
Trick Williams wanted to focus on Carmelo Hayes, but he was interrupted last week by Meta-Four during his challenge. He would first have to defeat Noam Dar.
The Family would address NXT champion Ilja Dragunov just one week after Tony D’Angelo flexed his power over The Mad Dragon by kidnapping him and threatening to send him to “sleep with the fishes”.
In the latest No. 1 contender qualifiers, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson would face the ultimate underdog tag team of Hank Walker and Tank Ledger.
Nathan Frazer and Axiom also hoped to qualify, but they did not know their opponents. No Quarter Catch Crew would have two members fight for the NXT Tag Team Championship opportunity.
Meanwhile, No Quarter Catch Crew would also defend the Heritage Cup against Riley Osborne. Which member of the crew would step up: Charlie Dempsey, Drew Gulak, Damon Kemp, and/or Miles Borne?
Tatum Paxley looked for revenge against Roxanne Perez after her heinous attack on Lyra Valkyria. Sol Ruca returned to action against Brinley Reece.
These moments and more defined a jam-packed edition of NXT.
Roxanne Perez vs. Tatum Paxley1 of 9
Tatum Paxley attacked Roxanne Perez with all her anger but was simply outmatched. The Prodigy hit Pop Rox into a crossface for a quick submission.
The Prodigy called out Ava again. Instead, Lyra Valkyria arrived with her left arm in a sling, ready to fight. Perez ripped off the sling and trapped The Valkyrie in a crossface until officials intervened.
This match was a pure squash, but Paxley worked hard to look good in a one-sided battle. The two did all that they could manage with four minutes of time.
NXT has done wonders with the build of the sequel to Valkyria vs. Perez. The excitement for the rematch is palpable, especially following Perez’s heel turn.
The NXT Women’s Championship feud is the hottest angle on the weekly show. While Trick Williams vs. Carmelo Hayes has bigger upside, Perez and Valkyria are moving faster right now in selling their battle to come.
Result
Perez def. Paxley by submission.

Oba Femi Meets His Next Challengers, Josh Briggs and Dijak2 of 9
Josh Briggs stomped to the ring to call out Oba Femi for his vicious attack on Brooks Jensen. Femi confidently agreed to fight Briggs, but Dijak arrived to claim his title shot. A brawl broke out until officials intervened.
WWE @WWEIT’S GOING DOWN!!! @DijakWWE and Josh Briggs have their sights firmly set on @Obaofwwe and the North American Championship! #WWENXT pic.twitter.com/0do03k5Dvy
This was a solid set-up for the expected triple threat teased last week. Femi vs. Briggs vs. Dijak is a very different kind of match than NXT typically delivers, a pure power match-up.
With the right pacing, it could make a major impression as the hard-hitting battle of Stand & Deliver. All three men could make a main roster impression as well during WrestleMania weekend.

No. 1 Contender Qualifier: Nathan Frazer & Axiom vs. Charlie Dempsey & Myles Borne3 of 9
Myles Borne and Charlie Dempsey stepped up to represent No Quarter Catch Crew. They were not able to stop Nathan Frazer and Axiom. Frazer won with a Phoenix Splash on Borne while Axiom knocked out Dempsey with the Golden Ratio.
WWE NXT @WWENXTOne. Step. Closer. @Axiom_WWE and @WWEFrazer are a win away from #StandAndDeliver! #WWENXT pic.twitter.com/TurDTK43ze
It’s time to give Frazer and Axiom a formal tag team name. They are too good together to not stay a team for a while. This duo has not missed since their first tag together.
While Dempsey had easy chemistry with his former NXT UK rivals, Borne stood out for his physical and fast performance. This was the best he has looked in NXT. This was a great match all around.
The right team obviously won, and Frazer and Axiom should win the triple threat as well. It is more likely though that Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson will go over instead.
Result
Axiom and Frazer def. No Quarter Catch Crew by pinfall to qualify for the No. 1 contender triple threat.

Sol Ruca vs. Brinley Reece (w/ Edris Enofé and Malik Blade)4 of 9
Brinley Reece was a ball of fire from the bell but walked right into the Sol Snatcher for a quick loss. Afterward, Blair Davenport struck, laying out Sol Ruca.

This was not much of a match, but Ruca looked great coming off her injury. Her athleticism is still eye-popping. She may have been even more fluid than she was last year.
Ruca vs. Davenport is a big match for the impressive athlete. The way she is booked could lead her straight to the title scene or push her to the back of the line.

Tony D’Angelo Promises to Break the Unbreakable Ilja Dragunov5 of 9
Tony D’Angelo promised to win the NXT Championship at Stand & Deliver. When Ilja Dragunov popped up on the titantron, The Don interrupted to advise him that he would face The Underboss, Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo, next week.
WWE @WWE”One wrong move… and Stand And Deliver will be a burial”@TonyDangeloWWE wants @UNBESIEGBAR_ZAR to tread carefully ahead of #StandAndDeliver 👀#WWENXT pic.twitter.com/d7KbExvNkr
This was unfortunately too corny. While The Don has gotten far with his mafia boss gimmick so far, he walks a fine line between serious and silly. It was hard to buy him here as a real challenge to Dragunov.
He is leaning heel in the build to Stand & Deliver, throwing obstacles in the way of The Mad Dragon making it to the title match healthy.
This is not as interesting as D’Angelo looking to prove himself after building so much good will in the past year.

Heritage Cup: Drew Gulak (c) (w/ NQCC)vs. Riley Osborne (w/ Chase U)6 of 9
Riley Osborne shocked Drew Gulak, representing No Quarter Catch Crew, with a round one decision off a Shooting Star Press. Gulak responded with a surprise pin trap in round two for his first fall.
Jacy Jayne arrived with Jazmyn Nyx to distract Thea Hail, who Duke Hudson barely stopped from attacking them both. Nyx also got physically involving, setting up Gulak to fall onto Osborne in round four for the deciding fall.
WWE @WWEWHAT JUST HAPPENED?! @Jazmyn_nyx_wwe just cost Riley Osborne the Heritage Cup 😡#WWENXT pic.twitter.com/7uyclYEXeR
This was a great showcase for the variety of athletic moves that Osborne can do, but it was rushed and clunky by Gulak’s usual standard. Too much of the action looked heavily choreographed.
The chemistry was not there, setting up a forgettable encounter where neither seemed comfortable with the Rounds format.
No Quarter Catch Crew needs to win some matches clean to establish actual dominance. This was another case where the group looked outmatched in a contest where Gulak should have been clearly favored.

Gulak def. Osborne by pinfall to retain the Heritage Cup.

No. 1 Contender Qualifier: Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson vs. Hank and Tank7 of 9
Hank Walker and Tank Ledger tried to take Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson off their game with fast offense. However, The OC was too experienced to let the rookies beat them. They won with the Magic Killer.

This played out as predicted. Gallows and Anderson dominating in a flat beatdown section. Hank and Tank tried to get this match moving, but it was too late. The veterans picked up the expected win.
There was no doubt at any point that The OC would not advance. Gallows and Anderson showed no urgency to get to the finish.
While Gallows and Anderson have veteran experience as a tag team and have a competent match with anyone, they remain too limited to stand out on a young stacked roster.

The OC def. Hank and Tank by pinfall to qualify for the No. 1 contender triple threat.

Trick Williams vs. Noam Dar (w/ Meta-Four)8 of 9
Noam Dar had Trick Williams on the ropes, especially after a distraction from Lash Legend. However, Trick caught Dar with a surprise Trick Shot for the win.
Immediately after the match, Trick called out Melo. Hayes snuck in as a member of his own security, starting a brutal four-on-one beatdown of his former friend.
It was nice to see Dar wrestling a traditional wrestling match again. His technical prowess was on full display as he focused on the left leg with his shoot kicks and submissions.
He brought out more from Trick than anyone but Ilja Dragunov so far, making this a strong main event bout all around.
It was good to finally see Trick and Melo get physical again, though Hayes could have done a bit more with his sneak attack to emphasize how much he hates Trick.
Result
Trick def. Dar by pinfall.

Overall Show9 of 9
The build to Stand & Deliver is in full effect. Nearly every match pushed a key story for NXT’s top premium live event.
Roxanne Perez and Lyra Valkyria started things off big. The Valkyrie sold how much it means to her to get revenge while The Prodigy continues to thrive in her heel role.
The matches were hit and miss, but Nathan Frazer and Axiom continue to be highlights in NXT.
Trick Williams and Noam Dar have chemistry, making Trick look better than ever as he prepares himself for the most important match of his career.
Unfortunately, the show was let down by a flat Tony D’Angelo promo and a Heritage Cup match that never clicked
The good outweighed the bad, and NXT is on the right track to deliver one of its best shows ever in a couple weeks.
