‘XXL’ 2024 Freshman Class Includes ScarLip, Cash Cobain, And More

The picks are in for XXL’s 2024 Freshman Class and the outlet included a bevy of internet sensations from ScarLip to Cash Cobain. On Monday (June 24), the Hip-Hop publication took to social media to release their annual list of rappers who they think will carry the genre forward.

The 2024 cover depicted eleven bright stars assembled for the yearly cover shoot and included the likes of ScarLip, That Mexican OT, Rich Amiri, Maiya The Don, Hunxho, 4Batz, Cash Cobain, Skilla Baby, Lay Bankz, and Bossman Dlow. XXL also stated that Southside would deliver the beats for the highly anticipated freshman freestyles set to follow. XXL shared an official press release for this year’s iteration of the list, taking fans a bit behind the scenes of the process of selecting their freshmen.

The publication also gave shoutouts and congratulations to the chosen few, typing, “Every year, rappers from all corners of hip-hop vie for a spot while only a select few get the glory. Meetings with 53 rap hopefuls this year included discussions about their music, hearing unreleased songs, going over touring plans and learning more about their goals. With that in mind, and many other factors at play, the difficult decisions began as the staff deliberated over which artists would join the other 171 past Freshmen who have been inducted into the classes since 2007.”

“Seventeen years of celebrating new talent have led to the 11 artists that make up the 2024 XXL Freshman Class. Welcome a tongue-twisting rhymer from Texas, a Brooklyn Don, the coldest out of Detroit, a Florida slick-talker, two of Dallas’ top contenders, a Philadelphia fly girl, a sexy drill general, Atlanta’s ladies’ man, an animated Bronx MC and Boston’s mesmerizing voice. Get familiar with this motley crew.”

The publication also stated that over the course of a month, fans can expect to see and hear visuals for their freestyles.
