YouTube Updates Advanced Analytics to Provide More Insight into Video Performance

YouTube’s rolling out some changes to its Advanced Mode in YouTube Analytics, which it’s hoping will make it easier for more users to glean relevant, valuable information from the tool, rather than it being only for advanced users.

YouTube says that it’s redesigned the Advanced Mode element with “simplicity in mind, making it more intuitive for both beginners and power users.”

First off, as you can see in the above example, YouTube’s added a new left-hand sidebar, with more controls to configure your reports. So now, it’ll be much easier to hone in on whatever element you’re looking to learn more about, by simply choosing the relevant metrics from the available filters.

As explained by YouTube:

“You can search and find useful breakdowns of your channel performance, like geography, content type, and revenue source. With the metric picker, you can choose the metrics you want to see. You can select and deselect multiple metrics at once, and you can apply filters to narrow down the most relevant information. We’ve also introduced a new feature to help you search content by its title, while you can also sort your content by duration and publish date.”

You can also save your most valuable reports to come back to them. So, for example, you might want to save the “Traffic Source” report for repeated reference, in order to help you understand where your viewers are coming from.

As you can see here, you can also access first 24 hours video performance reports, so you can check in on how your content is grabbing attention (or not), as well as a “Top Moments” report, which will show you how different sections of your videos are resonating with viewers.

So there’s a heap of info within YouTube’s advanced analytics tab, which you may not currently be using, and this updated UI aims to make it more accessible, and more valuable to more channel managers.

The updated advanced analytics tab also includes new comparison elements, so that you can match your videos performance against your other clips, or crosscheck them for performance over time, to see how they compare in terms of viewing momentum.

There are also audience demographic breakdowns, and various other comparison tools to help you understand and contextualize your content performance.

These are some handy tools, which could help you maximize your YouTube content efforts. And while the metrics themselves are not new, it could well be worth logging into advanced analytics and seeing if there’s anything you may have missed, which is now much easier to find with this updated display.

YouTube says that the updates will be rolling out “over the next few weeks.”

You can access YouTube Analytics Advanced Mode via the Analytics overview in YouTube Studio.
